This document supplements our main Privacy Policy and outlines how Informa TechTarget complies with these state requirements. The laws below shall be each referred to as a “State Privacy Law” and collectively the “State Privacy Laws”:

A. Who These Privacy Laws Apply To

Most state privacy laws don’t apply to consumers when you’re doing work-related activities. Almost all State Privacy Laws do not apply to individuals when they are acting in a commercial or employment context. This means:

  • These laws have limited effect on how we handle your information when you use our services for work;
  • Our services connect people who buy and sell technology for their jobs;
  • When you use our content, we assume you’re a business professional researching tech solutions for your company; and
  • California residents: Special rules apply to you regardless of why you’re using our services

By interacting with our content, we interpret this activity to apply to business professionals looking to research technology solutions to benefit their employers and professional interests. If you reside in California, our California Privacy Notice applies to you.

B. Information Collected by Informa TechTarget

Please refer to our section 4 of our Policy on the information Informa TechTarget collects. We have collected the following categories of Personal Information from Consumers within the last twelve (12) months:

  1. Identifiers. A real name, alias, postal address, unique personal identifier, online identifier, Internet Protocol address, email address, account name, Social Security number, driver’s license number, passport number, or other similar identifiers.
  2. Personal Information categories listed in the California Customer Records statute (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.80(e)). A name, signature, Social Security number, physical characteristics or description, address, telephone number, passport number, driver’s license or state identification card number, insurance policy number, education, employment, employment history, bank account number, credit card number, debit card number, or any other financial information, medical information, or health insurance information. Some Personal Information included in this category may overlap with other categories.
  3. Commercial information. Records of personal property, products or services purchased, obtained, or considered, or other purchasing or consuming histories or tendencies.                
  4. Internet or other similar network activity.    Browsing history, search history, information on a Consumer’s interaction with a website, application, or advertisement
  5. Geolocation data. Physical location or movements.            
  6. Professional or employment-related information. Current or past job history or performance evaluations.  
  7. Inferences drawn from other Personal Information. Profile reflecting a person’s preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities, and aptitudes.          

C. How Informa TechTarget Collects Personal Information

Informa TechTarget obtains the categories of Personal Information listed in the list above from the following categories of sources:

  1. Directly from you
  2. Directly from clients or their agents
  3. Indirectly from clients or their agents
  4. Directly and indirectly from activity on our websites
  5. From our group companies, affiliates, and subsidiaries
  6. From third parties that contract with us or interact with us in connection with the services we perform

D. How Informa TechTarget Uses Personal Information (Purposes)

Section 5 of our Policy details the purposes in which Informa TechTarget uses Personal Information. For purposes of this supplement, Informa TechTarget may use, disclose, share, sell, and process the Personal Information for the following business and commercial purposes:

  1. Send you relevant emails, newsletters, and notices about our products or services
  2. Sell your information to Clients who may contact you about products and services matching your professional interests
  3. To include professional information in our products and services
  4. Communicate with you, advertise to you, or connect you with peers and providers of relevant technologies, goods, and services
  5. Provide and improve our websites, products, and services
  6. Manage your account and provide customer support
  7. Personalize your experience with relevant content and offers
  8. Maintain security and integrity of our systems
  9. Conduct research, testing, and product development
  10. Protect rights and safety of our company, clients, and others
  11. Comply with legal obligations and law enforcement requests
  12. Process business transactions, including mergers or asset transfers
  13. For purposes disclosed when collecting your information

E. Disclosures to Third Parties

Personal information will be disclosed to third parties for business and commercial purposes. The recipients may include:

  1. Informa TechTarget affiliates
  2. Informa Group Companies
  3. Informa TechTarget Partners (who we call clients)
  4. Research customers
  5. Service Providers and Contractors
  6. Business Transfers
  7. Government and Law Enforcement

F. Sharing or Selling of Personal Information

After we collect Personal Information, the Personal Information will be sold to third parties, including our Partners. The above is subject to your right to opt-out of the selling or sharing of Personal Information. We do not sell or share the Personal Information of minors.

  5. Professional or employment-related information. Current or past job history or performance evaluations. 
  6. Inferences drawn from other Personal Information. Profile reflecting a person’s preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities, and aptitudes.          

G. Notice of the Right to OPT OUT of the Sale or Sharing of Your Personal Information to Clients (Third Parties) & Exercising the Right to Know, Access, Transfer, Correction and Deletion Rights (as outlined in Section J below)

Consumers have rights to opt out of the sale or sharing of Personal Information. Consumers may exercise their rights several ways. To exercise any rights consumers have in Section J below, please use the mechanisms outlined in this Section G. To enable Informa TechTarget to process your request, we require consumers to submit requests using one of our forms. This allows us to track the request, verify and confirm your identity, and communicate with you. You may also email [email protected], but you will be directed to complete a form submission as we cannot verify your identity from one email request. Below are the three mechanisms to submit a request, and depending on where you are located, some State Privacy Laws may differ based on your jurisdiction. Therefore, we are providing all three of our forms below, but please select the one applicable to your jurisdiction. H. Information for Authorized Agents

Authorized Agents who have the regulatory authority to submit a request shall use TechTarget’s Authorized Agent Portal available here to submit CCPA (and other State Privacy Law Authorized Agent Requests) related rights requests on behalf of consumers from whom they have received prior authorization to act on their behalf. In order to ensure the security of consumer’s Personal Information, Informa TechTarget asks that all requests from Authorized Agents be submitted via this method. Evidence of a signed authorization to act on the behalf of the consumer that is the subject of the request, must be submitted as a PDF as part of this process. Authorized Agents must also attest to their legal authority to submit information on the behalf of each individual they represent.  Please note, if an authorized agent is unable to provide proof of authorization, their request may be rejected. Bulk emails to our email addresses will result in a reply to the Authorized Agent to complete our form as indicated above.

I. Cookies and Global Privacy Control

Informa TechTarget may also sell or share Personal Information with third parties on our website for marketing and advertising purposes. Individuals may opt-out of the sale or sharing of their Personal Information if you have a Global Privacy Control (GPC) setting enabled on your browser. In those states where it is required, if you have enabled the Global Privacy Control signal, we will treat this as a request to opt out of sales, sharing, and targeted advertising for device and browser information. Note that we do not associate your browser or device information with your direct identifiers such as name or email. Please visit the GPC website for more information.

J. Consumer Rights Under State Privacy Laws

The State Privacy Laws provide consumers with specific rights regarding their Personal Information. This section describes your rights and explains how to exercise those rights.

  1. Access to Specific Information and Data Portability Rights. You have the right to request that we disclose certain information to you about our collection, use, disclosure, selling, or sharing of your Personal Information over the past 12 months. Once we receive and confirm your verifiable consumers request, we will disclose to you:
    1. The specific pieces of Personal Information we collected about you (also called a data portability request)
    2. The categories of sources from which the Personal Information was collected
    3. Our business or commercial purpose for collecting or selling that Personal Information
    4. The categories of third parties with whom we share that Personal Information
    5. The specific pieces of Personal Information we collected about you (also called a data portability request)
  1. Deletion Requests. You have the right to request that we delete any of your Personal Information that we collected from you and retained in our databases, subject to certain exceptions. Once we receive and confirm your verifiable consumers request, we will delete (and direct our applicable Third Parties and Service Providers to delete) your Personal Information from our records, unless an exception applies. Requests may be denied if it is necessary for us or our Service Providers to:
    1. Complete the transaction for which we collected the Personal Information, provide a good or service that you requested, take actions reasonably anticipated within the context of our ongoing business relationship with you, or otherwise perform our contract with you
    2. Detect security incidents, protect against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity, or prosecute those responsible for such activities.
    3. Debug products to identify and repair errors that impair existing intended functionality.
    4. Exercise free speech ensure the right of another Consumers to exercise their free speech rights, or exercise another right provided for by law.
    5. Comply with the California Electronic Communications Privacy Act (Cal. Penal Code § 1546 seq.).
    6. Engage in public or peer-reviewed scientific, historical, or statistical research in the public interest that adheres to all other applicable ethics and privacy laws, when the information’s deletion may likely render impossible or seriously impair the research’s achievement, if you previously provided informed consent.
    7. Enable solely internal uses that are reasonably aligned with Consumers expectations based on your relationship with us.
    8. Comply with a legal obligation.
    9. Make other internal and lawful uses of that information that are compatible with the context in which you provided it.
  1. Correction. You have the right to request that we correct inaccurate Personal Information that we maintain, or which pertains to you. Once we receive and confirm a consumer’s verifiable consumer request, we will use commercially reasonable efforts to correct the inaccurate Personal Information.
  1. Non-Discrimination. You have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment by our business for the exercise of privacy rights conferred by the State Privacy Laws.

K. California’s Shine the Light Law

California’s “Shine the Light” law (Civil Code Section § 1798.83) permits users of our websites that are California residents to request certain information regarding our disclosure of Personal Information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. L. Response Timing and Format

We endeavor to respond to a verifiable Consumers request within 45 days of its receipt. If we require more time (up to 90 days), we will inform you of the reason and extension period in writing.  If you have an account with us, we will deliver our written response to the email address associated with that account. If you do not have an account with us, we will deliver our written response by mail or electronically, at your option. Any disclosures we provide may only cover the 12-month period preceding the verifiable consumers request’s receipt. The response we provide will also explain the reasons why we cannot comply with a request, if applicable. For data portability requests, we will endeavor to select a format to provide your Personal Information that is readily useable and should allow you to transmit the information from one entity to another entity without hindrance.

M. Processing Minor’s Personal Information, Consumer’s Precise Geolocation, or Consumers’ Reproductive Healthcare Data

For information on minors, please see section 22 of our privacy policy. Informa TechTarget does not knowingly collect precise geolocation data that is used or intended to be used to locate a consumer within a geographical area that is equal to or less than the area of a circle within a radius of 1,850 feet. Informa TechTarget does not collect Personal Information regarding a consumers’ reproductive healthcare data.

N. Data Retention

We retain your Personal Information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and provide our services. We will retain members’ Personal Information for so long as a member’s account remains in existence and as needed to continue to provide our services. We may retain a member’s Personal Information after their account has been cancelled or deleted if retention is reasonably necessary to comply with any other legal or regulatory requirements, to prevent fraud and abuse, or to enforce our Terms of Use. We may also retain your Personal Information, for a limited period, if requested by a government agency or law enforcement.

O. Changes to This Statement

We reserve the right to amend this Statement at our discretion and at any time. When we make material changes to this Statement, we will notify you by email or through a notice on our website homepage and the date posted above.

California: The California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) (and, formerly, the California Attorney General’s Office) manages California’s Data Broker Registry. The CPPA website includes a list of all registered data brokers and is accessible here.

Oregon: The Department of Consumer and Business Services manages Oregon’s data broker registry. Information about the data broker registry is available state’s data broker registry.

Texas: The Texas Secretary of State manages the Texas’s Data Broker Registry. In accordance with the requirements of the Texas data broker law, TechTarget is posting the following notice.

The entity maintaining this website is a data broker under Texas law. To conduct business in Texas, a data broker must register with the Texas Secretary of State (Texas SOS). Information about data broker registrants is available on the Texas SOS website.

Vermont: The Vermont Secretary of State (VT SOS) manages Vermont’s Data Broker Registry. The VT SOS website includes a list of all registered data brokers and is accessible here.
